Abstract

1,202,399. Pneumatic remote control assembly. IDEAL TOY CORP. 22 Nov., 1967 [17 Feb., 1967], No. 53130/67. Heading A6S. [Also in Division F1] A pneumatically operated remote control assembly (Figs. 1, 3 and 4) includes (a) a control station 12 having a housing carrying an air bellows 66 contractable by a plunger 72 mounted on the housing, a portion of the plunger being exposed for contact by the hand of an operator, (b) a control switch 14 having a housing, a lever 116 mounted for movement between a first and a second position, and an air bulb 118 engaging the lever extension 146 and upon expansion moving the lever 116 to one of its positions, and (c) an air conduit 85 pneumatically connecting the bellows to the bulb, contraction of the bellows thus expanding the bulb and moving the lever to one of its positions. The lever 116 may be connected to control the switch member 36 of track switching mechanism 22 (fig. 1) contraction of the bellows 66 by plunger 72 causing expansion of the bulb 118, moving the lever about pivot 120 against the biasing coil spring 138, member 36 thus moving to rotate triangular member 24 anticlockwise about pivot 34 to the dotted line position in fig. I whereby a vehicle travelling in the direction A in the slotted guide 20 continue in the straight ahead direction B instead of in the direction C defined by member 24 before its actuation by switch member 36. An air vent 80 provided in the plunger 72, which vent is closed by the operators hand when the plunger is pressed, allows the system assembly to return to its initial state when the operators hand is removed, and the resiliency of the bellows' walls causes it to expand to its initial inoperative position. The capacity of the bellows is substantially larger than that of bulb 118 to allow complete expansion of the latter even when small leaks occur in the air system. Several control stations (12, 12' see fig. 1), the respective control switches of which actuate separate track switching mechanisms, may be combined to form a battery of stations by dipping the lugs 166 contained on the base extensions 160 of one control station into the co-operating apertures 162 contained in the respective opposite ends of the same base extensions of a neighbouring control station; each control switch being detachably connected via its base extensions 154 to the base 18 of the track switching unit.
