Abstract

1,202,272. Gauging tapered bores. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 16, 1968 [April 17, 1967], No.17507/67. Heading G1M. A bar 1 is positioned across the mouth 3 of a tapered bore 4 by a side arm 26 and a roller mounting cross strap 32 adjustably held in a clamp 28 itself movable vertically of the bar. A support arm 5 fixed to the bar 1 pivotally mounts a bar 8 at an end 9, the bar 8 being adjusted so that its true edge 22 lies parallel to the bore 4. The adjustment is effected by slip gauges or a micrometer 17 and a stop 21 acting on a roller 18 carried by the pivotable bar 8, and a screw 35 may be used to set the space between the surface 22 and the bore 4. A slidable carriage 23, carrying a dial indicator 24 and a bore feeler 25 may be moved along the bar 8 in a path lying on an axial plane of the bore to indicate errors. The bar 1 and the arm 26 may be provided with hardened spacer blocks to achieve a three point engagement.
