Abstract

1,202,117. Spray producers. R. M. KALTENBACH. 18 Oct., 1968 [19 Oct., 1967] No. 49562/68. Heading B2F. Apparatus for obtaining uniform droplets, e.g. in spray-dryers and prilling apparatus, comprises a perforated plate 1, liquid feed means 3 in communication with the plate, means 6 for vibrating the plate continuously at one of its resonance frequencies and fixing means 8-11 to sealingly connect the feed means to the plate at a nodal zone thereof. Additional transverse vibrations may be applied to the plate and/or feed means. Means may be provided to charge the droplets electrostatically and influence their paths by electric or magnetic fields. The device may be arranged to spray downwards or upwards ina. prilling tower with counter current flow of cooling fluid, or at an angle of inclination to provide the droplets with a maximum period of flight. The vibrations may be produced mechanically or electrically.
