Abstract

1,201,648. Carbon-fibre-reinforced plastics golf clubs. CARLTON SPORTS CO. Ltd. 13 Dec., 1968 [20 Dec., 1967], No. 57756/67. Heading A6D. A golf club consists of a head made of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastics material and a shaft. The shaft may be made of metal or of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastics material, and may be provided with a handle at the end remote from the head. If the shaft is of metal the head end may be provided with lugs; a looped member or other projection around which the head may be moulded. Preferably the shaft is a steel tube of tapering crosssection, the larger end being provided with a handle and the smaller end having secured to it a looped metal member. The looped metal member projects from the end of the shaft in the direction in which the head is required to lie, and the head is moulded around the looped member on to the end of the shaft. Alternatively, the shaft may also be formed of carbonfibre-reinforced plastics material, in which case the head and shaft may be integrally moulded together. A handle of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastics material may be provided and may be moulded integrally with the shaft and head or separately. The plastics material may be an epoxy, polyester, phenolic or other synthetic thermosetting resin.
