Abstract
1,200,619. Naphthoquinones. GREAT LAKES CARBON CORP. 18 Dec., 1967 [22 Dec., 1966; 19 Jan., 1967; 20 March, 1967], No. 57458/67. Headings C2C and C2V. α - Naphthoquinones are produced by oxidizing naphthalene or # - substituted naphthalenes in an inert, water-immiscible solvent with an aqueous solution of a hexavalent chromium compound and a mineral acid, wherein the chromium compound has been electrolytically regenerated to contain from 30 to 80% of its chromium in the hexavalent state, at an oxidation temperature of from 5‹ to 50‹ C. The substituted naphthalene may be 2 - methyl or 2,3-, 2,5-, 2,7- or 2,8-dimethyl naphthalene.
