1299583 Castors JOSEPH GILLOTT& SONS Ltd 1 Oct 1971 [10 Oct 1970] 48263/70 Additon to 993928 Heading A4U A castor comprises a pivot 10, rotatably secured by a circlip 15 in a socket 16 in a body member 11, a longitudinally split, two part plastics bearing bush 20, 21 secured in an openended recess in the body member, and a roller member 12 having secured therein a spindle 13 which is rotatably retained in the bearing bush by the engagement of aligned ribs 25 on the bush parts in an annular groove 26 in the spindle. The spindle 13 is laterally offset from and inclined at an angle other than 90‹ to the axis of the pivot and is a drive fit in a blind socket in the roller member 12. The bush 20, 21 push-fitted in the recess in the body member 11, has end parts 22 forming a closed outer end, stop flanges 24, abutting a hub 19, and is retained in the recess in the body by the engagement of a profiled rib 23 in the recess in aligned peripheral grooves in the bush parts. The bush is preferably made of nylon, and the body and roller members may be made of hard plastics, metal or metal and plastics components. In modifications, the bush is located in the roller and the spindle is a drive fit in the body member or is located in the mould during casting or moulding of the roller or body member, the recess in the body member is closed at the outer end, or the bush is in one part or in more than two parts.
