Abstract

1299379 Suction dredgers HOLLANDSCHE AANNEMINGSMAATSCHAPPIJ NV 4 Dec 1970 [15 Dec 1969] 61022/69 Heading E1F A cutter-suction dredger has a cutter, a main suction pipe, and an extra suction pipe having an intake which can be placed at substantially the same level as, or above, the lowest part of the cutter and wholly within a circle centred on the nearest point of the cutter and having a radius equal to or less than twelve times the internal diameter of the main suction pipe intake. The level of intake 10 of an extra pipe joined to main pipe 16 by flexible joint 34 may be adjusted relative to cutter 4 by hydraulic jack 37. The flows in the main and extra pipes are in the same direction at their confluence. A telescopic joint may replace the flexible joint. An extra pipe is described having two intakes. Each extra pipe intake may be controlled by a valve controlled by means sensing the presence of soil in front of the intake. Unwanted material may be removed from each intake either by teeth on the moving valve member which may be passed between the bars of an intake grating, or by an endless chain moved in front of the intake. The main pipe may have a relief valve for the intake of water on the cutter or on the dredger side of the joint between the main and extra suction pipes.
