Abstract

1299111 Detecting enuresis A MOZES 18 Feb 1970 [25 Feb 1969 (2)] 7826/70 Heading A5R A device for detecting enuresis comprises a hip-girdle 2 carrying a cap 6, adapted to surround the urine outlet of the person and containing sensing electrodes 13-16 for detecting urine flow and thereby triggering an alarm circuit, and stimulator electrodes 11, 12 arranged to deliver a stimulus to the person upon triggering of the alarm circuit, a terminal strip 28 and batteries 26, 27 of the alarm circuit being disposed in a pocket 3 of the girdle. The sensing electrodes are either welded to the inside of the cap or attached to a tape which is pinned to the cap. The cap is made of synthetic resin and is attached to a triangular portion 1 of linen which is attached to the waist band 2. The stimulator electrodes are interwoven into the edge of the cap. The alarm circuit comprises a buzzer device 29 one terminal of which is connected through a thyristor to the negative pole of batteries 26, 27, the other terminal being connected to the positive pole through a positive-sensitive switch. This is preferably a mercury switch and is so disposed in the garment that it is closed when the person wearing the garment is in a horizontal position and is automatically opened when the body of the person is erected beyond a certain angle relative to the horizontal. The alarm circuit further comprises three plugs each having associated with it a resistance to which stimulator electrode is connected. The other stimulator electrode is connected to the positive terminal of batteries 26, 27. A socket connected to the case of the buzzer device is attachable to any of the plugs. When a conductive path is established between the sensing electrodes due to the presence of urine, the thyristor is made operative closing the circuit between the batteries and the buzzer, and also connecting the stimulator electrode 12 to the negative terminal of the batteries. A stimulus is thus applied to the patient.
