This plate is arranged for lateral movement behind a lenticular lens sheet (62), Fig. 5 (not shown), between positions in which a set of strips 72 or 74 lie exposed to view through the lens elements 66 or hidden behind masking strips 92. The strips 72, 74 are of narrower width than the elongate lens elements 66 but the images of the strips are magnified by the lens to be of substantially the same width as the lens elements. Some of the strips 72 are divided into green zones 76 and white zones 78; and some of the strips 74 are divided into red zones 80 and black zones 82. These strips may include a photo-luminescent material (e.g. paints and inks containing such a material). The movement of the plate 70 between its alternate positions may be actuated by a mechanical indexing mechanism connected with a push-button (16) for an electrical switch (12) or a valve, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), pressure of the button causing a cam (36) to rotate, so shifting an actuator arm (24) having means to control the sliding movement of a carrier member (46); alternatively the plate 70 may be operated by a pressuresensitive diaphragm in a fluidic system to provide an indication of the presence or absence of a certain pressure level in the system, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown). The plate 70 and lens sheet (62) need not be planar, but may form ares of coaxial cylinders.
