Abstract

1298880 Fire retardant polymer compositions BERK Ltd 3 June 1971 [3 March 1970] 10105/70 Headings C3B C3P C3R and C3T Fire retardant compositions comprise (1) a polyolefin, polyester, polyurethane, polyamide, polycarbonate, epoxy resin, acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene copolymer, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polyvinyl acetate, silicone rubber or natural or other synthetic rubber and (2) decabromodiphenyl. The compositions may also contain antimony oxide, and conventional fillers, pigments, plasticizers and stabilizers. Examples describe compositions of decabromodiphenyl and optionally antimony oxide with (1) unsaturated polyester resin, (2 to 4) ABS terpolymer, (5) polyethylene, (6) poly 4-methylpentene-1, (7 to 9) polycaprolactam, (10) ethylene/ vinyl acetate copolymer, (11) epoxy resin, (12) toughened polystyrene, (13 and 14) rigid polyurethane foam derived from a polyether and toluene diisocyanate, (15) synthetic rubber latex foam, (16) polyvinyl acetate, (17) silicone rubber, (18) polyvinyl chloride and (19) polyethylene terephthalate and polycarbonate resin.
