Overhead travellers.-In overhead travelling bridge cranes the drum G, Fig. 5, of the crab F slightly overhangs the girder structure which has an inclined or undercut side A in order that the hook G<1> can be raised to the top of the girder without the load-supporting slings fouling. Tipping of the crab due to over-loading is prevented by a stop K<2>, and the tendency to tip is reduced by attaching the driver's cage M to the crab at the side opposite to the load. The load may be balanced by arranging the drum G, as shown in Fig. 4, and passing the hoisting rope over a guidepulley G<3>.
