Abstract
1298657 Polyarylene sulphide compositions PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO 19 April 1971 [23 Jan 1970] 20270/71 Heading C3R Ferric oxide is added as a filler to arylene sulphide polymers. The polymer may be one obtained by reacting one or more ring- substituted polyhalo-aromatic compounds with alkali metal sulphides. There may be from 2 to 75% by weight of ferric oxide based on the weight of the total composition. Shaped articles may be made from the composition and then annealed at a temperature between the second order transition temperature of the polymer and its melting point. In examples ferric oxide is added to polymer obtained by reacting sodium sulphide with p-dichlorobenzene. Other polyhalo-aromatic compounds from which the polymer may be prepared, are mentioned.
