Abstract

Winding-machines.-In cone winding-machines a pair of revolving-shaped rollers are provided which are capable of adjustment as regards the inclination of their axes to the axis of the pirn and their distance from the pirn. The rollers 12, Fig. 2, are mounted on spindles 9, 10 carried by vertically adjustable supports 7, 8 clamped in position in curved slots 5<1>, 5<2>. The roller spindles are adjustable through holes in the supports 7, 8. The pirn 3 is supported by a guide 6<1> through a hole in which the stem of the pirn passes. When the pirn itself has not a conical end to abut against the rollers, the pirn is supported at its end by a member 13 until the conical base of yarn is built up. The pirn guide 6<1> and member 13 are mounted on a stud projecting parallel to the spindle and the guide 6<1> can be removed along that stud and then turned out of the way to allow the rollers 11, 12 to be removed. To lubricate the rollers they may be mounted on hollow spindles 34, 35, Fig. 4, the outer ends of which are bent upwards to hold a head of oil. The oil escapes through holes 34<3>, 35<3>, and spiral grooves are cut round the spindles to force the oil towards the points of the rollers. Grooves 32<1>, 33<1> cut in the rollers at their outer ends receive any oil which may travel in that direction.
