Abstract

1298438 Automatic release and suspension of a housing from a bouy COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS CIT-ALCATEL 29 June 1971 [29 June 1970] 30375/71 Heading B7A An equipment housing 7 for underwater suspension from a buoy 2 is designed to be dropped into water so that the impact with the water frees the housing to hang below the buoy on cable 43 and at a predetermined depth. The housing includes stowage space 11 for the cable, a set of n cords J 1 , J 2 , &c. each fastened at one end to a respective point on the cable and having their opposite ends attached at equi-angularly spaced positions around a circular portion of the housing, and a cutter 34 of part circular outline subtending at its centre an angle of 360 degrees. (n-1)/n, rotatable about that centre between n predetermined positions. The cutter is mounted for movement in response to the impact with the water to cut all but one of the cords so, that the housing sinks to a predetermined depth determined by the point of attachment of the uncut cord to the cable. In the embodiment shown there are four cords J 1 , J 2 , J 3 , J 4 fastened to the cable, each associated with a separate depth of immersion and the circular cutter subtends an angle of 270 degrees at its centre.
