Abstract

1298485 Manhole assemblies for drainage systems REED INTERNATIONAL Ltd 13 Oct 1971 [28 Oct 1970] 51237/70 Heading E1C A manhole assembly comprises a preformed base member having a bottom 2 and integral side members 3, 4, the bottom having a main outlet channel extending to an outlet orifice (6, Fig. 3, not shown) associated with one of the side members 3, and the bottom and at least one of the other side members having locating means for one or more inflow channel bends 15 such that the correct location of an inflow bend with respect to the main outlet channel is obtained. Preferably, the locating means consists of grooves 23, 24 respectively located adjacent the sides of the main outlet channel and at the base of a gap in the opposed side members 4, which grooves are respectively engaged by flanges 20 and 22 on a channel bend. The main outlet channel is preferably a through channel, as shown, there being an inlet orifice 7 communicating with its inlet end and provided either directly in the respective side member 3 or in a separate member having a flange 13 engageable in a groove 12. The channel bend is formed so as to change from round cross-section at 17 to rectangular crosssection at its outlet 19. It is preferably of plastics material and includes perforated webs 29 for keying into the concrete used for infilling after assembly, the edges 25 and 26 of the channel bends being extended to form edges for guiding a concrete-levelling and tamping board. The manhole assembly is completed by stacking manhole sections (30, Fig. 3, not shown) above the base member, the upper edges of the side members of the base member being grooved to receive tongues on the lower edges of the manhole sections the upper edges of which have similar grooves.
