Abstract

1298107 Polyester injection moulding compositions SANDOZ Ltd 7 April 1970 [17 April 1969] 16448/70 Heading C3R A polyester moulding composition suitable for injection moulding has incorporated therein, either before or during the moulding step, from 0À001 to 2% by weight, based on the weight of polyester, of at least one substance which promotes crystallization, the polyester having an intrinsic viscosity of at least 0À80 and containing residues of: (a) at least one dicarboxylic acid selected from terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid, 4,4<SP>1</SP>-dicarboxy-diphenyl, di-(4-carboxyphenyl)- sulphone and 2,6-naphthalene dioarboxylic acid, at least 85 mol. per cent of said acid being terephthalic acid, (b) a saturated dihydric alcohol and (c) 0À001 to 1 mole per 100 moles of component (a) of at least one compound bearing not less than three polyester-forming functional groups. The compound bearing not less than three polyester-forming groups may be an at least trihydric alcohol, an at least tricarboxylic acid or an at least trifunctional hydroxycarboxylic acid. The crystallization promoter may be calcium carbonate, silicate, sulphate or oxalate, magnesium stearate or silicate, talcum powder, benzophenone, tetralin, tetrachloroethane, dioxane, analine or m-cresol and additionally polyolefins, polystyrene or olefin/ styrene copolymers. In the examples the polyester is produced from dimethyl terephthalate, ethylene glycol and pentaerythritol.
