Platform machines; pendulumweight apparatus; indicating mechanism.- Apparatus for checking the weight of shells &c. of substantially standard weight is provided with a supplementary platform resiliently mounted on the main platform and with a pointer 13, Fig. 1, co-operating with a chart 14 graduated to indicate the correct weight and allowable limits slightly above and below such weight, means such as stops 15, 16, which are preferably adjustable, co-operating with the beam 9 or other moving part of the scale to prevent movement of the pointer 13 substantially beyond the graduations. A dash-pot 35 may be connected with the beam 9 to damp the movements. The auxiliary platform comprises a pair of centrally grooved rails 17 arranged parallel with the face of the chart and resiliently supported on the main platform 12. The rails are connected by cross-bars, and the down-turned cupped ends of the rails receive the upper ends of springs-19 resting in cups 20 on the platform 12. Bolts carried by the rails extend into slots in the cups 20 and prevent detachment of the rails. Straps 26 of leather &c. may be stretched over the rails and secured at the ends by bolts 27. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the shells are arranged parallel to the face of the chart, the auxiliary platform consisting of a plate 30 with lugs 31, in which are secured the upper ends of bolts 32 passing through apertures in the main platform 12. Springs 33 prevent the transmission of shock to the platform lever-mechanism. In another arrangement, a spring-supported platform is provided to receive shells which can be stood on end during the weighing operation.
