Abstract
1298018 Measuring voltages TRANSFORMATOREN-UND RÍNTGENWERK DRESDEN VEB 27 May 1970 25502/70 Heading G1U The output of a source 1, 10 providing a high D.C. voltage (1) with a superimposed A.C. voltage (10) is measured using a potential divider comprising a choke 11 connected in series with parallel-connected ohmic and capacitive voltage dividing branches 2, 4. The reactance of capacitive branch 4 is small relative to the impedance of choke 11 so that most of the A.C. voltage is dropped across the choke. This enables screening electrodes 8 for the branches 2 and 4 to be connected directly to respective smoothing capacitors 9 in the voltage multiplier 1 providing the D.C. component of the source voltage. The D.C. component may be measured by an ammeter in series with the choke 11, or by a voltmeter 13 connected across an R.C. network 12. The A.C. component may be determined by a peak voltage detector 14 connected to a tapping on the choke 11 or to a tapping on a further capacitive potential divider connected in parallel with the choke, Fig. 6 (not shown). The choke 11 may be shunted by an over-voltage by pass (17), (Fig. 6) and may comprise several series-connected coils each shunted by a capacitor. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), for use when the transformer 10 for providing the A.C. voltage component is connected at the high potential end of voltage multiplier 1, the positions of choke 11 and dividers 2, 4 are interchanged.
