Abstract
1297553 Anti-foggants for light-sensitive silver halide photographic materials KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY Co Ltd 13 Aug 1970 [28 Aug 1968 39141/70 Heading G2C A photographic element comprises a support carrying at least a layer of a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion, said element having in at least one layer thereof (a) 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-1, 3, 3a, 7-tetraazaindene, (b) at least one of the compounds of the general formulae:- R 1 R 2 R 3 N<SP>+</SP>A X<SP>-</SP>, R 1 R 2 R 3 N<SP></SP> B<SP></SP> NR 1 R 2 R 3 2X<SP>-</SP> and wherein each of R 1 and R 2 is alkyl or hydroxyalkyl having 1-18 carbon atoms; R 3 is alkyl or hydroxyalkyl having 1-18 carbon atoms, or aryl or aralkyl in which the aromatic nucleus may be substituted or unsubstituted; each of the symbols represents a heterocyclic group not containing any metal atoms; A is alkyl, dodecyloxymethyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl; B is -(CH 2 ) n -, -CH 2 -O-(CH 2 ) n -O-CH 2 -, p-xylylene, -CH 2 OCH 2 -, -CH 2 CH 2 -S-CH 2 CH 2 -, -CH 2 OCH 2 CH 2 -S-CH 2 CH 2 - OCH 2 or -CH 2 COCOCH 2 - wherein n is an integer of 1-10; and X<SP>-</SP> is an anion, and (c) a compound of the formula:- wherein Y is H, halogen, NO 2 or methyl, the amount of (a), (b) and (c) together being sufficient to reduce or inhibit fog. Many examples of these compounds are given (a), (b) and (c) may all be present in the silver halide emulsion layer. The exposed element may be developed at a high temperature e.g. 40C. These elements suffer less desensitisation on development and have good anti-fogging properties in high temperature and ordinary development. British Patent number 1270734 is referred to.
