Abstract
1297221 Oral medicaments containing microcapsules C R T (CENTRE DE RECHERCHE THERAPEUTIQUE) 19 April 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 20315/71 Heading A5B A stable homogenous medicinal form for oral administration comprises a suspension of microcapsules in a gelified excipient having a density equal to that of the microcapsules, the microcapsules containing at least one therapeutically active substance inside a wall soluble in a body juice and inert in relation to the active substance and insoluble in the excipient. The excipient may be an aqueous solution containing at least one gelling agent such as guar gum, gelatine, pectin, agar-agar, an alginate or carragheenate and optionally at least one preserving agent, sugar, aromatic or flavouring. The active substance may be a diuretic, cardiovascular agent, analgesic, sedative, antiallergic, antibiotic, enzyme or vitamin and the microcapsule wall material may be ethyl cellulose. The example relates to a suspension of tetracycline hydrochloride microcapsules, having an ethyl cellulose wall suspended in a gelified aqueous solution containing guar gum and pectin.
