Abstract
1296928 Seed slurry sowing; furrow opening and closing BPB INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [10 March 1970] 11544/70 Headings AID and A1B In a method of sowing seeds in which the seeds are incorporated in a slurry medium preferably containing gypsum plaster to produce a setting of the slurry, a seeding device discharges the slurry in a continuous 'ribbon' at a controlled rate onto the ground as the device proceeds. The slurry passes through an aperture or slot which controls the amount discharged. A container 13 for the slurry has an opening in the bottom in which is situated a roller 15, and a slot in the wall 17 which is adjustably closable by means of a shutter 20. The slurry passes out through the slot and onto the roller 15 whence it is discharged onto the ground. The density of seed is varied by adjusting the shutter or by adjusting the degree of dilution of seed in the slurry. An adjustable tine or coulter 29 is mounted below the level of the roller 15 for opening a furrow in front of the roller, and a furrow covering element e.g. convergent "wipers" 31 is mounted below and behind the roller. An agitator 23 may be driven from the roller drive preferably by means of cam 26 and arm 25. An arm 33 which extends laterally from the device carries an adjustable guide to follow a previously sown furrow. A front wheel scraper 32 is also shown. For seeding several rows at once a larger device has laterally extended container 13 and roller 15 and several spaced metering slots.
