Abstract
1296412 Polymer complexes DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 30 Jan 1970 [1 Feb 1969] 4556/70 Heading C3P [Also in Division C2] A complax (including these formed by purely electrostatic ion-polyelectrolyte interaction) is formed by reacting a linear or cross-linked polymer containing carboxyl or carboxylate and hydroxyl groups and, in the main chain, at least 75 mole per cent C-C bonds, with a number ratio of carboxyl or carboxylate groups to hydroxyl groups of at least 0À5 and a degree of polymerization of at least 3 with a metal ion. In the examples polyaldehydo carboxylic acids are prepared by polymerizing acrolein, acrylic acid, α-ethylacrclein, maleic acid and maleic anhydride in the presence of oxalic acid, water, thioglycolic acid hexyl ester, KMnO 4 , H 2 O 2 , benzoyl peroxide and MnO 2 ; these are converted to the salts of polyhydroxycarboxylic acids by treatment with formaldehyde, NaOH and KOH and complexes formed with Ca<SP>++</SP>, Fe<SP>+++</SP>, Mg<SP>++</SP>, Ba<SP>++</SP>, La<SP>+++</SP>, Cr<SP>+++</SP>, Co<SP>++</SP>, Ni<SP>++</SP>, Zn<SP>++</SP>, Cd<SP>++</SP>, Te<SP>+</SP>, Pb<SP>++</SP> and Ag<SP>+</SP> ions.
