Abstract

1296009 Automatic scintillation counter PACKARD INSTRUMENT CO Inc 19 April 1971 [10 April 1970 (2)] 26510/71 Heading G1A The sample vials for an automatic scintillation counter are loaded into the counter in a tray in which they are held in rows of columns in compartments having apertures in their floors, the tray is fed forward to positively align the first row with the testing station, the vials in the first row are raised by the teeth of a comb being moved upward through the compartment apertures, the vials of the row are moved by a carriage along the row in series to the testing station, and upon the passage of the last vial of the row to the station, the carriage with the vials therein is returned and the tray moved to align successively the succeeding rows. The mechanism is belt driven by electric motors and registration of the rows is achieved by a sprung disc in V grooves. At the test position a platform to which a vial is delivered is lowered into an enclosed test chamber. The column and row of the vial being tested may be remotely indicated. Useless motion is avoided by the photo-electric monitoring of the presence or absence of vials.
