Abstract

1296087 Lubircants SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 9 Feb 1970 [22 Sept 1969] 6095/70 Heading C5F [Also in Division C2] The invention comprises a lubricating composition comprising a lubricant and a compound of formula in which R 1 and R 2 are alkyl groups having at least two carbon atoms. Suitable lubricants are minerals or synthetic lubricant oils in particular esters of C 1-20 alcohols and C 3-20 aliphatic carboxylic acids. The ester may comprise a simple ester, a polyester or a complex ester. The lubricants may also be formulated from mixtures of esters such as major proportions of complex ester and minor amounts of diesters. An especially preferred mixture of esters consists of 50-80 wt. per cent bis-(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)- azelate and 20-50 wt. per cert 1,1,1-trimethyl propane. Also suitable are mineral lubricating oil derived from paraffinic, naphthenic, asphaltic or mixed base crudes and/or mixtures thereof, e.g. neutral oil having viscosities of from 100 to 6500 SSU at 100‹ F. Other conventional additives such as viscosity improvers e.g. methacrylate polymers and copolymers, dispersants such as polyalkenyl succinimides copolymers of N-vinylpyrrolidone or vinylpyridine and acrylates or methacrylates; additional antioxidants e.g. phenothiazines, diphenylamines, triazines, alkylated phenols; corrosion inhibitors such as triazoles, pyridylamines, dicarboxylic acids; and antifcam agents such as silicones may be added to the lubricating composition.
