Abstract

1294721 Wells ENTREPRISE DE RECHERCHES ET D'ACTIVITIES PETROLIERES 9 Feb 1970 [26 Feb 1969] 6104/70 Heading E1F Apparatus for plugging tube-lined petroleum production wells comprises upper and lower sets 4 and 3 of knives with springs 7 to urge them outwardly to grip the well casing, and basket blades 9 each provided with a flexible strip 10 which urges the blade outwardly. In use the apparatus is lowered down the production string until spring blades 23 on the actuating tool T pass beyond the end of the string. The blades are then enabled to bow outwardly, raising a sleeve 26 and thus releasing balls 28. A spring 22 urges a rod 1 downwardly causing the knives 3 to pass beyond the end of a sleeve 6 and to open out to grip the casing. The knives 4 are released to grip the casing by the actuating tool and the sleeve 6 being pulled upwardly. A jarring action shears a pin 20 allowing the tool and sleeve 6 to be removed and basket blades 9 to open out. Gravel or glass beads are poured onto the basket blades, with cement being lowered in a tool (Fig. 4) having a glass disc which is broken by the tool engaging the gravel. Alternatively the gravel can be lowered in a containerin the bottom of the tool.
