Abstract
1294761 Carbon tetrachloride FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 21 Jan 1970 [30 Jan 1969] 2912/70 Heading C2C Carbon tetrachloride is continuously prepared by passing benzene or a mixture of benzene and one or more chlorinated aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbons, with chlorine through a prereaction zone containing liquid hexachlorobenzene or a solution thereof, at a pressure above 20 atmospheres gauge and a temperature of from 100‹ to 350‹ C., and reacting the components in the gas phase in a main reaction zone under the same pressure and at a temperature of from 350‹ to 800‹ C. The hexachlorobenzene may be produced in the pre-reaction zone before or during the formation of carbon tetrachloride.
