Abstract

1294315 Rolling mills IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd 2 June 1970 [1 May 1969] 22267/69 Heading B3M A rolling mill, such as a pendulum mill, includes on each side of a workpiece to be rolled a work roll 5 supported by several axially spaced backing rolls 6 carried on shafts 17, the rolls 6 being laterally adjustable to vary the curvature of the work roll along its length. The rolls 5 and 6 are carried in a housing 6 which is detachably secured by brackets 55 to the end of an oscillatable arm of the mill. The backing rolls 6 on each shaft are. separated by spacers 31, Fig. 3, and between each spacer and the housing is located an arcuate adjuster 33 of tapering thickness. Movement of the adjuster by a screw 41 varies the distance of the adjacent portion of the shaft axis from the housing, and hence changes the local contour of the roll. The shafts 17 are hollow to allow lubricating fluid to be fed along them from one end.
