Abstract

1294227 Flexible pipes; pipe couplings T F MOSS 14 Jan 1971 [23 Jan 1970] 3410/70 Headings F2G and F2P A flexible pipe comprises a tube 1 surrounded by a helical metal coil spring 2 which is loosely encased within an outer sleeve 3 having an internal helical ridge 4 of the same pitch as the spring the ridge being interposed between the coils of the spring to restrict longitudinal movement of the spring. The portions of the sleeve between adjacent ridges are preferably of curved axial profile to facilitate bending of the pipe (Fig. 2, not shown). The pipe may be joined to a rigid end fitting 5 by shaping the end of the sleeve 6 to engage a nut 7 of the fitting, lock nut 8 being provided to compress a flange 9 of the sleeve against the nut 7. Alternatively (Fig. 3, not shown) the tube 1 and sleeve 3 are both drawn over an enlarged portion (11) of a spigot (10) of the fitting and are secured by a sleeve (13) around the narrower part of the spigot.
