Abstract
1294295 Retractive switches ALLENBRADLEY CO 13 Jan 1970 [18 April 1969] 1574/70 Heading H1N [Also in Division E2] A contact module 8 for a pushbutton switch comprises a housing split to define two facing switch sections 10, the facing surfaces of sections 10 being provided with aligned grooves 11 which together define a mounting screw bore extending through the housing, and also being provided with aligned retainer recesses 13 extending laterally relative to the axis of the bore, contacts 33, 50 in each section 10, a retainer 15 provided with oppositely extending spring clips 17 removably received in recesses 13 to hold sections 10 together, retainer 15 also being provided with a central opening 16 aligned with the bore and a mounting screw 21, Fig. 2 (not shown), in the bore received through opening 16 and having a threaded end 25, Fig. 2, extending outwardly through one end of the bore and a head 22 at its other end adapted to engage sections 10 to clamp them against a mounting surface. As shown, sections 15 are made of plastics or other resilient material. In the switch assembly shown, two modulus are stacked one on top of the other with the threaded ends 25, Fig. 2, of screws 21, Fig. 2, of the lower module screwing into threaded bores 23, Fig. 2, of the heads 22 of the screws of the upper module, and the screws 21, Fig. 2, of the upper module screwing into a pushbutton assembly 1. The pushbutton operates a moving contact carrier 40 which carries spring loaded moving contacts 50 which bridge fixed contacts 33, the upper module having changeover contacts and the lower module having normally closed contacts. Springs 44 secured in their recesses by clips 45 restore the moving contacts when the pushbutton is released. In a modification, Fig. 9 (not shown), the contacts are normally open and stops are provided to limit the upward movement of the moving contacts. In all arrangements the moving contacts 50 project through slots in carrier 40 which give a lost motion action since carrier 40 moves a little way on being depressed before the top edges of the slots engage moving contacts 50 to move them. Apertured covers 30 on each section 10 are held to base portion 29 by insulating rivets 28, Fig. 8.
