Abstract

1292882 Injection moulding IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [27 Feb 1970] 9545/70 Heading B5A In a process of making laminates by sequentially injecting two or more synthetic resins into a mould, a compound to improve the adhesion between the resins is also injected into the mould. This compound may be atactic polypropylene modified with maleic anhydride or a polyurethane and may be injected between the injections of the resins so as to form an adhesive layer therebetween. Preferably three injection barrels are used, feeding through a common sprue. Alternatively the compound may comprise two components each of which is incorporated into one of two adjacent layers of resin so that the components react along the joint between the resins to form a bond. Thus the adhesion-improving compound may be a polyurethane which comprises an isocyanate component and a polyester component. The article produced may have a cellular core and an unfoamed surface skin. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,156,217.
