Abstract

1292693 Banknote handling device SOC ANON FRANCAISE DES APPAREILS AUTOMATIQUES - TAXIMETRES - TAXIPHONES 8 June 1970 [11 June 1969] 27566/70 Heading G4X [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for the temporary storage of sheets, particularly intended as a banknote escrow mechanism for use with a vending machine, comprises a wheel 2, driven by an electric motor 4, two belts 5, 6 contacting the wheel along .two arcs AB and OC respectively, at least one pivotally mounted shutter arranged between guide pulleys 8, 12 of the belts, and two photoelectric cells 19, 21 for controlling the electric motor. In the embodiment described, an inserted banknote X is first conveyed through testing device 16, and then down shoot 18, passing between lamp 24 and photo-electric cell 19, initiating the rotation of motor 4 through a suitable control circuit (Fig. 2, not shown), until it contacts the periphery of wheel 2. The banknote is then carried between the wheel and belt 5, and when the shutters 27, 28 are in an inoperative position, as shown, is drawn between the wheel and belt 6. When the banknote approaches pulley 13 it moves between lamp 24 and photo-electric cell 21, stopping the motor 4. The operation of the device on the insertion of further banknotes is similar, a circular row of partially overlapped banknotes being built up, a further photo-electric cell 23 and lamp 26 being provided which through blocking device 43 prevents the insertion of further banknotes when a maximum allowable is reached. If a demand for encashment or reimbursement is made, the wheel is rotated and when photoelectric cell 22 indicates that the last of the banknotes stored has passed, one of shutters 27, 28 respectively is moved into contact with the wheel by electromagnets 32, 33 to divert the banknotes in the direction of arrow f1 or f2. Microswitches 34, 35 are also connected to blocking device 43 to prevent the insertion of further banknotes when either encashment or reimbursement is taking place.
