Abstract
1292211 Retractable aircraft undercarriage VEREINIGTE FLUGTECHNISCHE WERKE-FOFFER GmbH 12 Jan 1970 [24 Jan 1969] 1465/70 Heading B7G An aircraft having a retractable undercarriage 2 with a ground wheel 3 has a number of pivotally mounted flaps 10 for covering a gap 12 which extends around the periphery of the wheel when the undercarriage is in its retracted position, each flap having a compression spring 17 acting to maintain the flap in either an open or closed position, and having an arm 14 extending approximately perpendicular to the flap, whereby the flap can be moved from the open to the closed position by engagement of the wheel 3 with the arm during retraction, and from the closed to the open position by engagement of the wheel with the flap during lowering of the undercarriage. The spring 17 is arranged between a bracket 18 fixed to the undercarriage and a lug 16 on the flap at that side of the pivot 13 remote from the main part of the flap. The covering of the gap 12 may be completed by a door 11 coupled by a hinged bracing strut 20 to the shock-absorber leg 4.
