Abstract

1290946 Vehicle wheels RUBERY OWEN & CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [24 Feb 1970] 8930/70 Heading B7C To produce car wheels of different appearance from a basic pressed steel wheel plastics material is moulded on to the axially outer surface of a standard pressed steel wheel thereby forming one or more plastics mouldings bonded to the wheel in the moulding process. The surface of the wheel may be treated with a bonding primer or holes or tags may be formed in the pressing to form keys with the plastics material. In the wheel illustrated the moulding consists of a ring 6 having fingers 7 integral with and radiating from the ring; the fingers 7 filling the space between the rim 2 and the nave of the wheel. The plastics material is formed of epoxy resins or polyurethane and may incorporate metal powders in order that all or part of the surface, when polished, may give the appearance of metal. Alternatively the plastics material may incorporate carbon or other electrically conducting constituent to allow the moulding to be electroplated overall or part of its surface. The moulding may also be painted to give the appearance desired.
