Abstract
1290796 Printing processes JAMES HALSTEAD Ltd 13 Aug 1971 [3 Dec 1970] 57415/70 Heading B6C A relief decoration is formed on a surface (e.g. thermoplastic, paper, felt, asbestos felt on natural or synthetic material in sheet or other form) by applying to selected areas a mixture containing a thermoplastic material and a blowing agent, and heating the mixture to cause it to expand. The mixture may be a viscous liquid and applied by conventional ink printing. The mixture may also contain stabilizers, fillers and pigments. An example is:- polyvinyl chloride homopolymer 100 parts, 7,9-dialkylpthalate 63, butyl benzyl phthalate 7, octyl epoxy stearate 5, barium/cadmium/zinc complex 2, azo-di-carbonamide 2.25, whiting 34, pigments/dyes 10. The viscosity may be reduced by adding a solvent such as a ketone, ester, alcohol, chlorinated hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon. Before heating the applied mixture, a protective coating may be applied thereover, also a viscious liquid or in the form of a thin calenderrized film. Examples are:- (1) PVC homopolymer 80, PVC/vinylidine copolymer 20, texanol isobutyrate 25, butyl benzyl pthalate 5, octyl epoxy stearate 5, epoxidized soya bean oil 2, a chelating agent such as an anyl alkyl phosphite 0.5, and a viscosity depressent 2. (2) PVC homopolymer 100, 7-9 dialkyl phthalate 25, octyl epoxy stearate 4.5 chilating agent 0.25, a lubricant such as staeric acid 0.4, and a stabilizer such as a barium/cadmium/zinc complex 1.5.
