Abstract

1289784 Coin dispensers; vending machines NIELBECK RESEARCH & MFG Ltd 28 Jan 1970 4172/70 Headings G4V and G4X A coin dispensing device, for use with money changing or change-giving apparatus, comprises a pair of spaced plates 31, 32 (see Fig. 4), the lower plate 32 supporting a stack of coins (not shown) that rises through a coin inlet 33 in the upper plate 31. A rotatable roller 44 adjacent the coin inlet 33 and slide 47 are mounted between the plates 31, 32. Slide movement rolls at least one coin from the bottom of the stack edgewise about the roller 44 until the coin(s) drops through a coin outlet 40 in the lower plate 32. In a preferred embodiment (Fig. 4) for use with a machine vending articles at 10 cents, two sets of coin inlets 33, coin outlets 40, 41 and rollers 44, 45 are provided for nickels and dimes respectively; the coin stacks are supported by tubes (16), (17) (see Fig. 1, not reproduced). After coin testing (not further disclosed) two inserted nickels, or alternatively one dime, are directed by passageways (13) (see Fig. 1) to the appropriate coin stacks; switches in the passageways (13) activate the vending operation (not further disclosed). An inserted quarter is directed to a money box via one of the passageways (13), thereby activating the arm (25) of a switch (24) to energize a solenoid 62 (see Fig. 4). The solenoid 62 moves the slide 47 to deliver one nickel and one dime in change. In a second preferred embodiment, the slide is formed from two independently movable members (47a), (47b) (see Fig. 8, not reproduced) activated by two solenoids (62a), (62b) (see Fig. 7, not reproduced). The solenoids are energized through a printed circuit board, inserted at 71 (see Fig. 9), by a coin totalizer or coin escrow (not further disclosed). A sleeve 96 is axially movable in a counterbore 95 at the base of each coin tube 16<SP>1</SP>, to adjust clearance with the slides (47a), (47b) (see Fig. 8) and allow for damaged coins. The tip 83 (Fig. 9) of a cranked lever 80 diverts coins to a money box when the corresponding coin tube 16<SP>1</SP> is full. A lever 90 activates a switch 92 to prevent further insertion of coins requiring change, when coil level in a tube 16<SP>1</SP> falls below a predetermined value.
