Abstract

1289109 Yarn relaxing apparatus IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 Dec 1969 [31 Dec 1968] 61962/68 Heading B5B Apparatus for relaxing a thermoplastic polymeric yarn comprises yarn supply means (not shown), a fluid tensioning device 3, 23 including a yarn passageway, means 5, 18 for introducing gas under pressure to the tensioning device and a heating zone 8, 25 incorporating means for reducing the yarn tension during its passage through the heating zone. In Fig. 1 rotating tube 7 directs the yarn in a sinuous path to reduce yarn tension, while in Fig. 2 the shape of the externally heated passageway 25 has the same effect. The fluid tensioning device preferably includes means for directing the gas in the desired direction of yarn movement. The rotating tube 7 of Fig. 1 preferably directs the yarn towards a wall of the enclosure 8, which part of the wall is preferably treated, e.g. with polytetrafluoroethylene, to produce low friction. The yarns used in the above apparatus are preferably polyesters, polyamides, polyolefins or copolymers thereof.
