Abstract
1288812 Hydroxymercaptans HENKEL & CIE GmbH 22 Sept 1969 [5 Oct 1968] 46510/69 Heading C2C Hydroxymercaptans are prepared by reacting mono- or poly-epoxides having more than 3 carbon atoms and derived from mono- or polyunsaturated olefins, cycloclefins, monocarboxylic acid esters monohydric alcohols or monoethers with at least 1À5 times the stoichiometric quantity of H 2 S, in the presence of 0À01 to 10% by weight of a strong base based on the epoxide, at 40‹ to 200‹ C. under pressure. Examples prepare 1-mercapto-2-hydroxydodecane, 2(3)- hydroxy - 3(2) - mercapto - octane mixtures, 1 - mercapto - 2 - hydroxy - cyclohexane and 2.hydroxyoctadecylmercaptan.
