Abstract
1287402 Coated sheet material FOSECO TRADING AG 22 Aug 1969 [22 Aug 1968] 40259/68 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B3 C3 Dl D2 and F2] A fibrous mat of material used for insulating molten metal (see Division B3) is impregnated on one side, and may carry a separate layer thereon, of a heat-insulating refractory material or an exothermic material consisting essentially of finely divided oxidisable material and an oxidsing agent therefor, and a binder, the impregnated and/or coated side having an average porosity of less than 50 AFS units. The impregnated and/or coated side may be formed by passing a slurry of the material onto the mat and sucking or blowing the suspending liquid through the mat. The heatinsulating material may be finely divided sand, silica flour, sillimanite, grog, zirconia, dolomite, refractory silicates, alumina, magnesia, zircon flour, or chromite flour. The oxidisable material of the exothermic material may be aluminium, calcium silicide, or ball mill dust. The oxidising agent may be an alkali metal nitrate, chlorate or perchlorate, ammonium nitrate, chlorate or perchlorate, iron oxide or manganese dioxide. The fibres may be aluminium silicate, calcium silicate, metal, cotton, jute, or polyacrylonitrile (including carbonised polyacrylonitrile). The binder may be a natural or synthetic gum or resin, an alkali metal silicate, sulphite lye, colloidal silica or aluminium phosphate.
