Abstract
1286825 Electro-photographic toner CANON K K 17 Sept 1969 [20 Sept 1968 8 March 1969 25 April 1969] 45838/69 Heading G2H A toner for the dry development of electrostatic latent images comprises a colouring agent (e.g. carbon); a vehicle resin selected from one or more of polystyrene, acrylic resins, polyamide resins, expoxy resins and melamine resins; and a transfer improving agent (which increases the strength of adhesion between the particles to improve image transfer) selected from paraphenylphenol-formaldehyde polymers, terpene resins, xylene-formaldehyde resins, polybutene, #-pirene polymers, polyvinyl isobutyl ether, hydrogenated resins and esters of hydrogenated resins. Preferably the toner also comprises an aggregation inhibitor which controls the effect of the transfer improving agent and also increases the softening temp. so that toner does not melt during friction cleaning of residual toner from an imaging member after image transfer. Preferred aggregation inhibitors are vinyltoluene-butadiene copolymer, vinyltoluene-acrylic acid ester copolymer, polyvinylbutyral, mould releasing oils, butyl stearate, methyl hydroxy stearate, stearyl alcohol, ethylene glycol, the di-oxystrearamide of ethylene diamine, methyloamides, oleylamides, erucic amide sodium alkyl sulphates, polyethylene glycol polyoxypropylene, glycol monoether and low molecular weight polyethylene.
