Abstract

1286479 Contraceptive devices PREPHAR PROSPECTION DE RECHERCHES PHARMACEUTIQUES SA 16 Dec 1969 [16 Dec 1968] 61354/69 Headings A5R and A5B A contraceptive device of the cap type, for insertion by the penis into the vagina wherein it melts and contacts the mucous membranes, comprises a cap made of starch and having an outer surface layer consisting of a major proportion, preferably 80-90% by weight, of tris (polyoxyethylene)-sorbitan monolaurate and a minor proportion, preferably 10-20% by weight, of spermicidally active material, and an inner surface layer consisting of a major proportion, preferably 80-90% by weight, of a mixture of water-soluble lanolin, talc and tris (polyoxyethylene)-sorbitan monolaurate and a minor proportion, preferably 10-20% by weight, of spermicidally active material. The lanolin, talc and tris (polyoxyethylene)- sorbitan monolaurate are preferably present in a weight ratio of from 90:70:4 to 80:60:4. The spermicidally active material may consist of a mixture of phenylmercuric nitrate, benzethonium chloride, and methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, preferably in a weight ratio of from 2:4:20 to 3:5:20.
