Abstract

1285096 Fenders CONTINENTAL GUMMI. WERKE AG 17 Aug 1970 [16 Aug 1969] 39495/70 Heading B7S [Also in Divisions B8 and F2] A ship's fender comprises a resilient tube 11 of round or polygonal cross-section provided with at least one non-extensible cross-member 8 which, in use, is arranged parallel to dock wall 3 to inhibit vertical extension of the fender under load. The cross-member can be either a fabric re-inforced rubber or like strip, or a plate of metal or rigid plastics material. Fig. 2 (not shown), illustrates a fender comprising a pair of half shells, each bonded to one of a pair of interconnected metal plates (17), Fig. 3 (not shown ) illustrates a further modification in which in addition to the metal cross-member the fender is re-inforced by two rubber crossmembers (18). The Specification describes an apparatus for manufacturing the fender by a winding and vulcanizing process (see Division B8).
