Abstract

1284967 Boots &c SPRING-TRED Inc 25 Aug 1970 40762/70 Heading A3B A foot supporting and correcting device consists of a plate 15 having forward 16 and rear 17 portions which are inclined in opposite directions with respect to the longitudinal axis of the foot and an intermediate section 18 which is twisted about its length and which yieldably supports the front and rear sections 16, 17 in their inclined positions, the device producing a yieldable torsional force on the foot during a walking step. The sections 16, 17 are inclined such that the edge 17a of the rear section 17 lifts the inner side of the heel and the edge 16a of the front section 16 lifts the outer side of the forepart of the foot. The twisted intermediate section 18 is of stiff material and acts as a flat spring. The device 15 may be covered with a sheet of flexible material and used as a removable insert for a shoe or may be built into the shoe between the inner and outer soles. In a modification (not shown) the front and rear sections are formed from separate pieces and are joined by an intermediate spring strip, e.g. by rivets.
