Abstract

1284765 Swim fin W W HAFFENDEN Ltd 22 June 1970 [9 July 1969 23 Jan 1970] 34547/ 69 and 3514/70 Heading A6D A swim fin comprises at least one longitudinally extending reinforcing rib which has a resistance to flexure which increases abruptly at a predetermined curvature or angle of deflection. In the figure, shoe portion A is connected to a fin which is stiffened by longitudinal ribs C along each side of the swim fin. Rib C forms a housing for stiffening rib D formed with slots E so that it bends easily until the sides of the slots meet, when resistance to flexure increases abruptly. Alternative embodiments include slots extending right across the rib and a hinge at a suitable position along the length of the rib (Fig. 1 of 3514/70) with stops to limit the bending in each direction.
