Abstract

1284583 Vehicle mudguards L LAINE 12 Nov 1969 55288/69 Heading B7J A vehicle having an integral mudguard or wing 2 has an inner protective mudguard 1, which mudguard is adapted to extend around a portion of wheel 3. The mudguard 1 has an air deflecting portion 5 extending from one of its ends in a direction away from the other end of the mudguard and securing means in the form of connecting and supporting irons or tabs 11 are provided to enable attachment of the mudguard 1 to the vehicle. The inner mudguard 1 is so shaped and dimensioned that when attached to the mudguard 2, the portion 5 extends forwardly in a frontal region of the vehicle below the lower front edge of the mudguard 2 for deflecting air into a space 7 formed above the inner mudguard 1 in the direction of arrow 6, and an air duct is formed by the other end of the sheet forming the mudguard 1 and the vehicle body for escape of air from the space 7 in the direction of arrow 9. The inner mudguard 1 protects the outer mudguard or wing 2 from damage by dirt or stones thrown up when the vehicle is in motion and the space 7 allows rapid drying of the inner surfaces of the mudguard or wing 2 and the mudguard 1.
