Abstract

1284245 Scouring webs RIGGS & LOMBARD Inc 1 Dec 1970 [2 Dec 1969] 56927/70 Heading D1L A web of knit material is treated with a liquid material by a process wherein the web is transported in an open width condition, whilst being substantially fully supported, the liquid applied then part of it forcibly removed and the remainder removed by heating the atmosphere along its path. The web 26 is fed into apparatus 10 via slot 12. It is supported by perforated conveyor belt 16 during passage under nozzles 38 which spray on the treating liquid. The web is then squeezed partially dry by nip rolls 50, 48 and then delivered to the drying section. This section consists of a series of stacked conveyors, consisting of belts 53 and rollers 55 and 56, disposed above which are heating elements 64, typically steam rods, by means of which residual solvent is removed. A pivoted feeler 52 is provided in order to sense the tension of web 26 as it leaves conveyor 16 and which, via switch 54 controls the speed of variable speed motors which drive either or both of the conveyor rollers 18 and 20. A similar feeler 60 with switch 62 is provided to sense the tension of the web as it leaves the rollers 48, 50. The switch 62 controls the speed of the rollers driving the drying conveyors.
