Abstract

1283901 Stamping NORTON TOOL CO Ltd 21 Dec 1970 [5 Jan 1970] 379/70 Heading B3Q [Also in Division B5] In an hydraulic stamping press comprising at least two frame members 16, 18, 20 connecting a head portion 14 to a base portion 12 and wherein the head portion carries at least one hydraulic ram 38, the head and base portions are also connected by at least two tie rods 54 provided with means for applying a variable tension thereto. As shown, the tie rods 54 are connected to pistons (52) in cylinders 50, the lower parts of which are connected by a line 58 to a line 60 supplying pressure fluid to the rams 38. An initial tension may be applied to the tie bars by inserting in the line 58 a pressuresensitive non-return valve (59) which closes whenever the pressure in cylinder 50 falls to a predetermined value. The invention is applied to a transfer press comprising four consecutive pressing stations 30, 32, 34, 36 and having three hollow frame members 16, 18, 20. The tie rods 54 may be supplemented or replaced by tie rods 62 provided in the frame members 16, 18, 20.
