Abstract
1283819 Oxygen-generating device MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES CO 9 June 1970 27915/70 Heading C1A An oxygen generating device comprises an oxygen producing candle 1 having an axial passage 7 which is filled with filter material 8 at one end of which is a means for igniting the candle comprising a charge of ignitable material 4 which may be ignited by means such as a hot wire 5, and at the other end the axial passage communicates with an outlet 3 provided in the container 2 in which the candle is contained. A pad 9 of filter material may be provided at the outlet end of the candle to ensure the oxygen is filtered while the last bit of the candle is being consumed; alternatively the filter may be extended into the outlet. The ignition material may be recessed and the filter material extended into the recess (Fig. 2, not shown). Suitable filter materials include quartz or ceramic fibres.
