1283654 Feeding sheets GEORGE HARTLEY & SONS Ltd 1 Sept 1970 [3 April 1970] 15861/70 Heading B8R In apparatus for separating sheets from a pile of the kind comprising a vertically reciprocable transport head 5 connected to a horizontally reciprocable support 1 for movement therewith and having suction means mounted thereon, e.g. suction tubes 17, and means operable to move the head between a pick-up position and a delivery position, a blower means, e.g. a tube 21 having perforations 21a, is mounted on the transport head and adjacent the suction means so as to be movable therewith and is arranged for directing a jet of air into the vicinity of the suction means, e.g. at the upper region of the pile and in a direction parallel to the plane of the sheets, to facilitate separation. The transport head 5 may include a channel beam 15, two mounting bars 14, each carrying two suction tubes 17 and one blower tube 21, being slidable along the beam 15 and adjustably held in position by screws 16. The head 5 is pivotally connected by arms 6, 7 to a housing 8 adjustably positioned on beams 2, themselves reciprocable in guides (3), Fig. 1 (not shown). In operation, the beams 2 are reciprocated forwardly by a lever and cam mechanism, a lever 9, which cooperates with the upper arm 6 via rollers 10 and is connected to the cam mechanism, then allowing the head to drop to separate a sheet. The head is then raised and continues to be raised as it is moved rearwardly to deliver the sheet. Several heads may be mounted on the beams 2 and the suction tubes 17 may be spring biased downwardly, by springs 18. An adjustable arm 23 may engage the top of the pile.
