Abstract

1283430 Comminuting ores; ball milling ALLIS-CHALMERS MFG CO 30 Oct 1970 [6 Nov 1969] 51718/70 Heading B2A A milling system comprises a primary separator 1 having a coarse outlet connected by a conveyor 10 to a rotary dryer 6 whose outlet is in turn connected by a conveyor 15 to a mill 12. The mill output is delivered by a third conveyor, and the fines of the separator 1 are added to the material, without drying or grinding by a fourth conveyor 18. This material is cooler than the dried and milled fraction and by mixing it with the hot material a cooler product results which prevents excessive steaming when it is wetted at 24 preparatory to balling in a balling drum (not shown). As described, the dryer output is further separated at 27, the tines fraction by passing the mill. The coarse fraction is concentrated at 32, the tailings being delivered as waste at 33 and the values, e.g. Iron ore, only being supplied to the mill. Water is added from a source 22.
