Abstract

1283320 Brake squeal preventing devices FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 8 July 1971 32021/71 F2E To prevent squeal in a drum or disc brake a strip of rubber or rubber like material 19 is interposed between the backing plate and an abutment rigid with the part of the brake adapted to fix rigidly to the vehicle and preventing movement of the backing plate in the direction of rotation of a vehicle wheel, the strip being fixed to the backing plate. In the embodiment shown the rubber is interposed between the shoe 13 and actuator 15 or adjustor 17. For a disc brake the rubber 11 is inserted on the edge of the brake pad backing plate engaging the edge 8, Fig. 1 (not shown), of an opening (3) in the disc brake housing through which the pads are inserted.
